Denver Interactive Web Design!

Denver Interactive is the newest and greatest incarnation of my one man flash design and development company. I migrated all the data over here however I need to fix many of the image and link references in order for all to remain working as expected after my other host drops at end of month. I also tend to rant or talk about various pointless things and posts pictures and stuff in my blog here!
shorts:
  1. I am a champion level office foosballer now
  2. I can type many of my CA7 commands in one movement of slamming both my hands down on the keyboard, much to the amazement of my coworkers.
  3. quit smoking for 20 days (Jan 7th was last) the nicotene gum is edible now! with mint flavor deelicous
  4. Latest reads:
  • Robin Hobb - Shaman's Crossing - **** - well written strong characters
  • Steven Erikson - Gardens Of The Moon -****1/2 - may have even one-upped the world building of George RR Martin's and Guy Gavriel Kay.
  • David Foster Wallace - Oblivion:Stories - **1/2 - he is a strong and interesting writer but this book of shorts was neither strong nor interesting.
  • David Foster Wallace - A supposedly Fun Thing Ill Never Do Again:Essays - **** - Quite good

5. Latest Tunes - been listening to Oasis's Familiar to Millions, Joseph Arthur's Nuclear Daydream, Keane- various albums, Beck, Coldplay, Scissor Sisters, Death Cab, guess im listening to a lot of mainstream British or pseudo rock pop stuff

6.Latest Game - Playing Eve Online and got my first Batteship Class Vessel the other day its a 'Typhoon' and I named it 'PhoonTW' like FTW but with Phoon instead get it get?

7.Latest Creative Endevour - Writing my first Component in Flash it is called 'the Flexi-Blok Component' and will revolutionize the way online communities are constructed:D lol well see well see.

Random Snippets

So I redicovered my companies "training benefits" today in the form of cdiuniversity.com, they actualy have a wide variety of multipart training classes online and I began taking one on Object Oriented Actionscript 2.0, im fairly impressed as last time I looked they were still on Flash 5.

I began training on EBIZ(e-business) and ODCS(On-Demand something or other) yesterday and it was an awful day of endless mindless slave labor involving closing and/or forwarding tickets to different people and groups based on an archaic decision tree. And I was looking forward to learning UNIX, harr!

In an odd patch of long spanning attention and interest I laid out a small develoment plan for a feature rich Flash Poll component, may actually make it, we shall see.

somewhat humourous Bush joke,
"The Venezuelan President went to the U.N. and called Bush the devil. Bush said, 'I would love to answer your ridiculous charge that I'm the devil, but I'm a little too busy this week trying to unite my party behind torturing people."

anyways nothing exciting...onward christian soldiers

Cold Cut Calculator

Cheers!
More good news for me, this week I got the opportunity to switch from Night Operations Team Lead, to day shift Team Lead, making way for a somewhat accelerated path to world domination. I will post some screens of a new interface I am working on whence I have some time. 1.79 hours til my 4 day weekend starts. If my plan goes accordingly, I hope to takeover as the Daily Operations Manager within a short time. Inside sources say this is a strong possibility. More later...

Bought tickets to San Fran to see my brother Rick which includes a live Joseph Arthur show (one of my favorite artists). So, I am definitely looking forward to that.

In other news, i have begun a one month diet competition with my good friend Matt and Mary, my starting weight was 170lb's with a target of 158. My only changes thus far are eliminating most fat from the diet. We'll see First weigh in is Monday, with a target of 3-4 lb loss.

Denver Web Design or Denver Flash Design?

or just a hobby?

this one's for you googlebot...
I love ya keep coming by and link spiderin'.

But for real life is good, its 4:45 am MDT in Boulder Colorado, I am in a large command center with a bunch of projected screen surrounding me ala NASA space center. I just saw my web design buddies at threadless.com on CNN nice job Jake and Jacob on blowing up. From a small boutique T-Shirt design company to 21 million in sales last year. pretty huge leap, and great idea.
I have not been quite so successful nor prolific in my design output this past week as I have become hooked on a game called Eve-Online. Its pretty cool 6 developers in iceland started hacking out some python code and came up with this amazing game which now boasts 180,000 subscribers. The kicker though is that unlike most online games they developed with scalability as one of the core capabilities of the server system (in this case an IBM cluster). For example they broke the record for the most online users in an online game on a single server of 30,558 users. somewhat amazing as most online game servers max out at 1500-2000 users than must shard to additional servers. anyways enough about that.
I have actually redone the design of botlove.com about 2-3 score times now, perhaps its my OCD but i am never satisfied with the final product. One day perhaps when i have time to concentrate continuously for a long period of time I will accept the style and move on.
Work, you ask, well i am finally getting a day shift Team Lead position which will be much better in most ways, though ill have to do meetings with management and dress up which I have enjoyed avoiding on the night shift, but these are minor sacrifices. (edited)... almost time to go awaken my cooworkers and get ready to drive home.

The Best Vitriloic Customer Service Complaint Ever

From A forum I frequent:

Here's my letter to customer service regarding my crappy washer and dryer:

I'm not going to invest any more time in explaining the circumstances surrounding my excruciating frustration with your company. If after reading this you are compelled to find out what I'm agitated about, I emplore you to look up my account history. However, if my experience with the rest of your company is any indication, I'm sure that the system that my account is stored on will be out of service for the next 4-10 days or nobody who works in the Account-lookup department will know how to look up accounts. Don't bother to ask for a manager though, they're worse than the rest of the staff.

From your store managers, to your phone support, to your delivery people, the incompetence at your company is staggering. You have built a monument to inefficiency so precise in its destruction of customer loyalty that in 1000 years archaeologists will look at the ruins of your company and assume it was built to ritualistically sacrifice consumers.

To date, I have spoken to your main customer service department who could only offer to escalate my problems if I wait 21 days (I guess the first 7 months don't count). I have spoken with your repair department who has told me my issue would be resolved sometime between 4 and 20 days (or 2-3, or 30, depending on who you talk to). I have spoken to your store managers who said they could do nothing to fulfill the agreement they made with me when I purchased your products—they even sent us a polite handwritten note explaining what a mess they'd created, but they could not help me resolve it. I have spoken to your Rewardszone department and they could not help me, in fact they could not help me over and over and over again as I restarted the process with them every 10 days just like I was instructed.

I have wasted more time being tortured mercilessly by the various diabolic fragments of disjointed departments within your organization than I care to think about. I have been made promises that were evidently complete fabrications, I've been hung up on, transferred to erroneous phone numbers, and talked to some of the least helpful, most rude, and most condescending customer service people I have ever dealt with at any company.

To date, not a single complaint I've ever had with Best Buy has been handled to my satisfaction.

The thought that I'm going to have to endure another seven years of this nightmare while my service plan is still in effect makes me want to shoot myself in the head. The only hope I have is that you'll screw up and erase the extended warranty I paid for so I have an excuse to throw these worthless appliances into your parking lot and replace them with a set that actually works, from a company that actually cares if their customers are sickened by the thought of ever doing business with them again.

If I am ever foolish enough to set foot in one of your stores again, I hope a television falls on my head and kills me so my family can sue you and live off the blood money you have hoarded by extracting the finances and very souls of the hard working people in the community.

Monday, July 31, 2006

i just ordered this:
Inspiron E1705
Intel® Core™ Duo Proc T2250 (1.73GHz/533MHz/2 X 1MB L2 Cache)
LCD Panel 17 inch Wide Screen XGA+ Display
Memory 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
Video Card 256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory
HDD 60GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Operating System Genuine Windows® XP Media Center 2005

Wireless Networking Cards Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 Internal Wireless
Primary Battery 53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
Hardware Warranty 1Yr Ltd Warranty, 1Yr Mail-In Service, and 1Yr HW Warranty Support

my goal was to stay around 1200 and get a decent graphics card, 17" screen was optional but i got it with XGA+ screen, and 1-2gb memory(got 2Gb)

This should be a great machine since i can be plugged most of the time, just needed portability ability to crunch 3d graphics, and medium gaming, Flash and photo work

would have liked to get better battery, 7900GS go card, and 7200 speed drive but these were minor sacrifices

I am superstoked!

putting off that new car for a bit i think.

My current homemade rig is getting a bit dated even though i got it tuned to the edge it is only:

AMD 2600+ processor
2 gigs PC 100 ram (233 FSB)
ATI 9200 PRO video
2X80 GB IDE drives

been a good machine and I enjoyed building it and working on it.

Now to make my old PIII 800 into a Digital video recorder and Ill be all set for anything

im gonna work 6 12 hour days in a row next week, not looking forward to it, hire me to make websites for you, so i can work from home:D
I expect to hit 250,000 hits this week,(on this incarnation 8 months or so) which is pretty amazing for a site that began as a playground more than anything.
Botlove 0.3 coming along, this time around I am going to develop on live space at Botlove interactive web design denver colorado. I basically finished the intro section, I decided I would integrate a lightweight intro into the first 7-8 seconds of the users visit rather than having no intro, or having a seperate intro which is often a turnoff to users. After some style tuning i took out the neon coloring 'glowing' on the pixel icons and chose a subtler drop shadow to make them stand out a bit more. Also went with a more straight forward menu idea, that will have all menu options available immediately with a clear label over each and a clear symbol (icon) to show the purpose of the main category. A submenu system will show the subcats clearly above the main with a simple line showing under which heading you are navigating. Second only to usability is aesthetic and I believe the new look of the web site promotes a very comfortable user experience while having an attractive and modern flash look. Of coarse the most important aspect of all is selling the web design services to a potential client which is where the portfolio and samples will hopefully come in. Next on the agenda is how to display my work, which I have some good ideas on I believe.
Since deciding to create my Flash Design and Development business, I have learned alot about design. Initially my focus was too far into the playful aspects of flash, and the actionscript, but with time my designer's eye has started to tune, and hopefully it will continue to get even better in the future.

initial design layout for new botlove/

Sunday, March 26, 2006

I redesigned the site again I just wasnt
happy with the usability. The functionality is not complete as yet. Other impetous for this decision was the fact that i lost my source files for my website and a bunch of other stuff when i had a hard drive failure. nonetheless, no crying over spilt code... i made a desktop background you can find here
looks like this but bigger and badder!

Friday, February 10, 2006

Botlove.com is up for preliminary playing and testing, the site really isnt finished but this was my set date. I have some work yet to do which was pushed back due to the recent move, client work, and cetera. Nonetheless It will be completed soon.

I just did my Tax return on H&R block and I will be getting one, which is nice! Maybe i can afford a car after all. I am currently renting a chevy Cobalt which feels like a cadillac after the performance of the last few months of the Nissan Truck. Work is going well enough. Now that I am fully moved, I am getting my Internet hooked up again, and will finish my two projects hopefully within the week.

Wednesday, February 01, 2006

Well, I am done moving. My Truck's engine gave it's final clunk yesterday. I am one year older. I am back to work. more later/.
